Profile | Urban Inc

The group URBAN INC consists of two youngsters Tenzing Lekchola (Lex) & Thupden Wangchuk (Thups) who are all based in Gangtok (Sikkim) India. The quartet appears deep with their compositions and their music has a lot of influence that stretch beyond hip hop’s typical simple bass lines samples and scratches, and they do all their writing, singing and composing. Urban Inc.’s debut album “Rise to the Top” is already out, and the lead single “Beat the Rain” has a beautifully shot video to go with it. Urban Inc’s Thups and Leks are back with a new track titled ‘Dream High’ and a cool video to go with it.

The Sikkim based crew released the video at a packed premiere event graced by former Sikkim Minister T. Lachungpa. Also at hand for the release were the video director and editor Padma Tshering Shenga ‘Popolaz’ and Robin Gurung. In the lyrics, the artists discuss the challenges they faced as kids and the discouragement they encountered, but now they celebrate that they never paid heed to the naysayers’ advice. Leks suggests the same remedy for other students especially those that never find favor with teachers.

“Our aim is to motivate the students, especially who are the backbenchers. We want students not to give up in life” says Thups.

‘Dream High’ is off the band’s sophomore album by the same name, and they intend to drop the 20 track album by the end of the year. So far 6 joints are done, but in the remaining 14 they also plan to rope in other MCs to rip the microphone with them. Production on the track is good quality with vocal effects used on the singing in the hook. The beat is laid back and melodious, a signature with Urban Inc. The video is also well made with a heavy dose of post production time invested.

They describe their music as “relating to people from all walks of life” and they spit in both English and vernacular.
